Seminar: From Conceptual History to Iconology - From Carl Schmitt to Reinhart Koselleck

In this talk, Dr. Leutzsch will introduce conceptual history and iconology, taking the example of Carl Schmitt’s influence on Reinhart Koselleck. After explaining the theoretical background and the problematic linkage between both authors, he will demonstrate how social-political concepts and monuments represent a field of tension between two extreme political positions. To become political, a concept or a monument needs always a counter-part. Therefore the talk will close with the question: what happens if there are no counter-concepts anymore?

Dr. Andreas Leutzsch is DAAD Visiting and Honorary Assistant Professor at HKU and Fellow of the Institute for World Society Studies at Bielefeld University.
