Dr Vogt has a PhD in International Politics from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. A former Fulbright fellow, he also holds a MA in Political Science and International Relations from the University of Delaware. He conducted his undergraduate studies in Political Science, History, and Law at the University of Bonn. He teaches courses on European political systems, the European Union, contemporary political and economic conditions in Europe, as well as on Europe's foreign policy. His research areas are Sino-European relations (especially British and German Policy towards China), the phenomenon of political leadership, diplomacy / diplomatic history, and processes of democratization. Dr Vogt speaks German, Spanish, and French.

A Comparative Analysis of British and German Policy Towards China
The United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Germany are China's most important European partners - especially in economic affairs. Yet the relationship which these two European countries have with China could hardly be more different. This is due to the history of their respective engagement in China, the nature of their economies, and their understanding of global political affairs among many other reasons.
Political Leadership and Summit Diplomacy in Europe
This research project addresses a gap in the literature about leadership in European integration. It posits leadership as a central explanatory factor and answers the following research question: How did the leadership and European conceptions of British, French, and German decision-makers influence key developments in European integration?
