”Since a decade the EU is going through a number of crises. These crises are of a varying nature but have in common to challenge the important issue of trust – a crucial feature in a political community such as the EU. This talk centres on the findings in a book Trust in the European Union in Challenging Times, published by Palgrave Macmillan in June 2018. It takes an interdisciplinary perspective on trust in the EU and applies insights from a number of different dimensions – political institutions, legal convergence in criminal and civil law, social trust, digitalization, the diffusion of political values and norms, monetary convergence and the legitimacy of political systems – to explore the highly complex issue of creating and preserving trust in the EU.”

Anna Michalski is Associate Professor at the Department of Government, Uppsala University, and Senior Associate Researcher at the Swedish Institute for International Affairs, Stockholm. She has previously held academic positions at the School of International Relations and Administrative Affairs, Fudan University, Shanghai and the Department of Political Science at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She has also held positions at a number research institutes in Europe and beyond as well as at the European Commission’s Forward Studies Unit. She is chair of the Swedish Network of European Studies in Political Science. She has published widely in leading scientific journals and for international academic publishers.
